From a one-man business to a family business

2022 is a special year for Peter Hoek senior. In addition to celebrating his 60th anniversary in September, he is also celebrating 45 years of entrepreneurship this year. During this time, he has grown from a local company to a multinational and from a one-man business to a family business with a team of more than 250 employees at home and abroad. Peter is proud: “I once started Hoek myself, but the people around me – and my sons in particular – have made Hoek group the company it is today.”

Courage, hard work and investment have always been the guiding principles within the organization. “A lot has changed in recent years. Where we still had a wholesale function in the flower auction a few years ago, we now focus entirely on export. Supplying flowers, plants and accessories to florists in more than 50 countries is our daily business. It is wonderful to have seen the company change so much in recent years. In the ‘wholesale period’ I was still very much involved in the daily operations of the organisation. When the focus of the company shifted towards export, my son Ruben actually took over this role from me. My role became mainly advisory.”

After 45 years, Peter Hoek senior feels it is time to officially hand over the baton to Ruben and is finally taking a step back. As of 1 November 2022, Ruben Hoek will be the new CEO of Hoek group.
